Ministry Internship Overview

Ministry Intern, will learn from and be supervised by the Carolinas Chaplain and Vice President of the Carolinas Territory. During the course of the internship, the intern will experience a wide range of functions in areas of communications, marketing strategies, connecting with external and internal stakeholders, creating and executing engagement and event planning. Social media strategies and community relations will be additional learning opportunities.

Learning Goals consist of understanding and execution on:

  • Participate in supervision
  • Exercise an appropriate range of ministerial responsibilities under the careful supervision
  • Use the Learning/Serving Covenant to establish clear goals with supervisor
  • Work with Supervisor to conduct outreach activities to churches, faith-based organizations, community organization, corporations and foundations.
  • Work as part of a ministry outreach team
  • Attend meetings as representative of VOAC Ministry.
  • Facilitate Ministry team meetings with the direction of Supervisor
  • Manage the ongoing efforts of assigned initiatives
  • Increase awareness of VOACC as a Christian Church Without Walls
  • Provide spiritual and pastoral care to clients in all programs
  • Weekly spiritual growth assessments
  • Weekly bible study
  • Weekly prayer service
  • Holiday/special event for staff and/or clients
  • Other duties as assigned

Ideal interns will demonstrate the following:

  • Self-starter/self-directed with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work with persons of diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities.
  • Maintain all confessional conversations as confidential except in the cases of suspected child abuse or neglect or in cases where reporting is required by law.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients, clergy, supervisors, and other staff.

Eligibility for Internship:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate college or university.
  • Must be able to commit to a full semester, at least 20 hours per week (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter)
  • Provide a resume and 300 word cover letter, indicating internship choice and reason to be accepted. 
  • Meeting the application submission deadline and including all required information.
  • Must have acceptable Criminal Background check, and Negative Drug Screening
  • Exceptions may be made for internships required for the attainment of a professional certification under the guidance of a recognized professional certification board.
